Vanessa and Emily’s Acadia Proposal Session – A story about a double proposal, perfect timing and immense amounts of love

Emily and Vanessa’s double proposal at Acadia National Park was nothing short of breathtaking. Masked as an impromptu couple photoshoot the couple woke up before dawn and made their way to Acadia National Park to take photos at sunrise with Emily Leonard, a documentary-style Portland Maine wedding and couple photographer. After exploring the majestic cliffs that the park offers at its rugged coastline that hug the Atlantic Ocean we made our way to the iconic Sand Beach at the entrance of the park loop road. “Surrounded by cliffs, this small stretch of coast is the only sandy beach in – Acadia” states the National Park Service website.

The couple naturally fell into intimate and romantic poses along the sandy beach while the sun peeked out from atop the pine tree’s behind them. This created a natural glow in the images that reflected their naturally warm connection to one another. There is something truly special about photographing couples that need very little direction. It was obvious their love was so strong and their connection was deep. The two women met each other through the social media platform TikTok and although they lived across the country from each other their relationship slowly grew through hours of phone calls and messages back and forth. When Vanessa invited Emily to visit Texas she took the opportunity and the two haven’t looked back since. Now living together in the beautiful state of Maine, their family and love continues to grow.

The moment came for Vanessa to propose to Emily with a sneaky prompt from the photographer that was intended to make the surprise disguised as a unique photography pose. Emily turned to see Vanessa kneeling down with a vintage ring she bought from Doyle and Doyle, an antique and vintage jewelry shop. Unknowingly Emily also had plans of proposing to Vanessa the same weekend and after Vanessa popped the question Emily responded by pulling a custom ring of her own out of her pocket and simultaneously proposing to Vanessa.

There were enthusiastic “Yes’s” from both women and they exchanged the act of placing the ring on each other’s hand. This moment was lovingly commemorated by photographer Emily, the owner of Emily Leonard Photography a Portland Maine wedding and couple photographer.
