As a Maine wedding photographer, I often get the privilege of capturing unique and intimate moments. Shannon and Cody’s elopement in Portland was no exception. This couple chose to forgo a big traditional wedding and instead ventured to Maine alone for a deeply personal celebration. Their day was a perfect mix of elegance, simplicity, and authenticity. The day started early at the Blind Tiger on Danforth Street, a charming and cozy hotel with vintage-inspired touches that added the perfect atmosphere for their celebration. Shannon and Cody were the picture of calm and joy as they got ready in separate rooms, soaking in the excitement of the day ahead. I took some quiet moments to photograph the details—Shannon’s satin gown, which featured a delicate tie at the back of the neck, and Cody’s classic black tuxedo with a bow tie. Their outfits were the epitome of timeless bridal elegance. After some intimate preparation photos, we made our way to the courthouse for the ceremony. The couple’s choice to marry at Portland’s City Hall gave their elopement an authentic, no-fuss vibe. There’s something so special about the simplicity of a courthouse wedding. There’s no distraction, just the two of you and the love you share. The grand marble staircase in the Portland Maine City Hall building provided a stunning backdrop for most of our photos that afternoon. Its towering steps and regal feeling added an extra layer of beauty to the already perfect scene.

From City Hall, we took a short stroll through Portland, heading towards the Old Port. Shannon and Cody’s connection was palpable as they wandered through the city streets, hand-in-hand, basking in the joy of just being together. We stopped at one of Portland’s local favorites, Via Vecchia, for a celebratory drink. With its intimate atmosphere and well-curated ambiance, it was the ideal place to capture more candid moments of the couple in the heart of the city. There’s something about the genuine, candid shots that always make me smile—the unposed, authentic moments that tell the real story of the day.

As the evening approached, we returned to the Blind Tiger Hotel for one last chapter of the day—playing pool. It was an incredibly fitting way to wind down after such an emotional and beautiful ceremony. There’s a certain quiet joy in those unguarded moments—just two people, happy and content, finishing off the day with something as simple and intimate as a game of pool. It was an intimate and relaxed ending to what had been a truly memorable day.

Throughout the day, I worked in my hybrid photography style, blending both digital and film coverage to capture the richness of each moment. The texture of film paired with the crispness of digital helped to evoke the timeless, vintage wedding inspiration that Shannon and Cody’s day naturally embodied. It was such a rewarding experience to capture a wedding so genuinely reflective of the couple—full of love, simplicity, and authenticity.
