When Sara and James approached me about photographing their wedding, I was immediately drawn to the idea of a summer camp-themed celebration. As a Maine photographer, I’ve had the privilege of capturing beautiful weddings in stunning locations, but this one was particularly special. Not only did the couple choose the breathtaking Island Pond Event Center in Harrison, but they also brought their vision of a weekend-long celebration to life. It was personal, intimate, and unforgettable in so many ways.

The morning of

Sara and James decided to start their day by getting ready in separate cabins. I always enjoy the moments leading up to the ceremony—the nerves, the anticipation, the quiet moments of reflection. There was something so relaxed yet intimate about how they went about the morning. Both Sara and James surrounded themselves with their closest friends and family, sharing moments of joy and excitement as they prepared for the big day.

Sara’s cabin was full of laughter and love as her sister helped her into her floor-length satin dress with floral details on the draped sleeves. Her laid-back but graceful vibe was reflected in every detail, from her simple, natural makeup to the sweet, personal touches in her decor. Meanwhile, James, surrounded by his crew, was readying himself just a few yards away. I couldn’t help but notice the sense of excitement they both exuded as they prepared to exchange their private vows before the ceremony.

The ceremony

The ceremony took place with the serene pond as the backdrop. The calm waters shimmered in the late afternoon sun, adding an extra layer of romance to the already-perfect moment. Sara walked down the aisle looking radiant, with James waiting for her at the altar, misty-eyed, surrounded by their closest friends and family.

It was a beautiful and emotional ceremony. The love between them wasn’t just in their words—it was in the way they looked at each other, the way they laughed, and the way they shared such a personal, significant moment in front of the people they loved most.

After exchanging vows, the couple shared a sweet kiss as their family and friends clapped in celebration. Take a look at Sara’s face for a priceless “we just got married!” reaction. Pure joy!

Sunset Photos & A Canoe Ride

One of the highlights of the day came after the family-style dinner, during the sunset. We had a golden hour that made everything feel even more magical, so I couldn’t resist taking Sara and James out to capture a few intimate moments on top of the grassy hill that sits on Island Pond’s property. The light was perfect, and Sara and James showed off their connection which made for some truly beautiful portraits of the newlyweds.

What made this time even more special was their spontaneous decision to hop into a canoe and take a short paddle around the lake as we made our way back to the pond. I’m a huge fan of couples doing something unique and personal for their photos, and this was one of those moments that really felt like it belonged to just Sara and James. As they paddled through the peaceful lake, surrounded by nature, it felt like a moment just for them—no distractions, no pressures—just love and a healthy dose of laughter.

The evening

As I reflect on their wedding day, I can’t help but smile. Sara and James created something truly special. It was a weekend that brought together two families, celebrated love in a stunning setting and embraced everything that makes them unique as a couple. Their day at Island Pond Event Center was more than just a wedding—it was a celebration of who they are, and it was an honor to be the one to capture it.

As the sun set and the weekend drew to a close, it was clear that this was a day—and a weekend—that Sara, James, and their guests would remember for years to come.
