The Barn on Walnut Hill Wedding Venue Maine

On a warm summer day in Maine, Abby and Conor celebrated their wedding at The Barn at Walnut Hill in North Yarmouth. This beloved Maine wedding venue set the tone for a day that felt intimate, relaxed, and deeply personal. As a Portland, Maine wedding photographer, I’m always drawn to venues that offer variety without sacrificing connection. Walnut Hill does exactly that. Each space flows naturally into the next, allowing the wedding day to unfold with ease.

The morning began in the farmhouse. Upstairs, Abby got ready alongside her closest friends and family. Laughter filled the rooms as hairspray misted the air and makeup bags spilled open. From the start, the energy felt joyful and unhurried. Meanwhile, downstairs, Conor and his wedding party prepped for the day. They shared stories, adjusted ties, and toasted with neat glasses of whisky. At the same time, the farmhouse buzzed with anticipation on both floors.

From a photography standpoint, I documented the day using a blend of film and digital photography. This approach allows me to capture both crisp moments and softer, more textured frames. Because of that, the final gallery holds a rich mix of contrast, color, and emotion. As a Maine film wedding photographer, I work with multiple camera bodies and film stocks. This variety helps me document the full range of light and movement throughout a wedding day. Throughout this post, you’ll see images shot on 35mm and medium format film.

The Farmhouse at Walnut Hill

The farmhouse offers the perfect setting for getting ready. Natural light pours into every room, creating a calm and welcoming atmosphere. Because the house connects directly to the barn, it works seamlessly for both sides of the wedding party. Abby and her people used the upstairs, while Conor and his crew settled in downstairs. As a result, everyone enjoyed privacy without feeling separated. Forgotten toothpaste, last-minute snacks, and quick check-ins stayed easy and stress-free.

The Ceremony Grove

For Abby and Conor’s ceremony, the couple chose The Barn on Walnut Hill’s beautiful wooded ceremony grove. This outdoor space sits tucked into a natural tree canopy that feels both secluded and serene. It’s more than just a backdrop. The grove creates a sense of privacy and presence, drawing guests into the moment and setting a tone that feels peaceful and intentional. Because the grove is surrounded by mature greenery and shaded paths, which makes for stunning images from every angle. This setting gave their vows a quiet magic that paired perfectly with the warm summer light.

The Front Lawn & Garden

Just outside the farmhouse and barn, a lush lawn opens up for portraits and gathering. This space works beautifully for both couple portraits and family photos. Large trees provide shade, while manicured gardens frame the area naturally. Because of the surrounding greenery, the lawn feels private and secluded. At the same time, the venue sits only minutes from the interstate. This balance of accessibility and intimacy makes Walnut Hill especially sought after. Later, this same lawn hosted cocktail hour. The space comfortably held two bar setups and a live band, while still maintaining the venue’s signature charm.

The Tent

For dinner and formal dances, Abby and Conor chose a tented reception. This decision immediately created an intimate dinner-party atmosphere. Broadturn Farm designed cascading floral installations filled with lush greenery. These organic elements echoed the landscape surrounding the property. By bringing nature into the tent, the design felt cohesive and intentional. Overhead, wicker lamps hung among the vines, adding warmth and texture. Griffin & Griffin Lighting brought this vision to life, with planning support from A Family Affair. Together, they created a space that felt both elevated and inviting.

The Barn on Walnut Hill

Finally, the celebration moved into the heart of the property, the barn! This restored 19th-century structure blends historic charm with modern comforts. Inside, the barn feels open and airy, with high post-and-beam ceilings and chandeliers.

Because the barn opens onto a classic granite patio, Abby and Conor’s reception flowed naturally between indoors and out. Guests enjoyed cocktails in the fresh Maine air before dinner, and dancing filled the evening with a happy energy. The barn’s design strikes a beautiful balance of luxury without ever losing the intimate spirit that The Barn on Walnut Hill is known for.
